4 Ways to Prepare Your Air Conditioner for Summer

Summer isn’t officially here. But with the rising temperature, some of you have probably turned on your cooling system. An air conditioner is your best defense against sweltering temperatures. With the summer heat, you may need to run your AC round-the-clock in order to stay comfortable.

The last thing you want is to find out that your air conditioner doesn’t work.  That said, you need to prepare your it for summer to make sure it is ready for an increased workload.

Here are some tips to get your air conditioning unit in top shape before the summer hits.

Seasonal AC maintenance

Regular AC maintenance is important to ensure that your air conditioning unit and its components are operating properly.

Now is the time to get your AC working well. It is important to cal an AC technician as early as now to have your air conditioner cleaned and inspected. Otherwise, you may end up waiting for a few days before a busy technician comes to your home. Plus, you may have to pay a higher price just to avail of their services.

Clear the debris

In order to work properly, the exterior condenser needs a nice, unobstructed flow of air around it. Wash the condenser with a garden hose and give it some spring cleaning. Also, make sure that there is at least 2 feet of clear space around the unit. Since the condenser is usually tucked behind your garage or backyard, it is a good idea to trim greenery and shrubs around the central air conditioning unit.

Change the air filters

A clogged filter can restrict airflow and make your cooling system work less efficiently. Since it has been months since you last used your air conditioner, we suggest that you check your air filter before turning it on. Also, be sure to check your air filters every month and change them whenever necessary.
