Clever Ways to Hide an Ugly AC Unit

Nothing ruins your garden or lawn faster than an ugly AC unit. That same boxy piece of machinery that keeps your home cool can also become a major party crasher in the middle of your summer barbecue. Don’t get us wrong, we love our AC units. It is our favorite major appliance, especially during the hot and humid summer months but it’s not that pretty.

The good news is there are creative ways to hide that ugly AC unit without compromising its performance. Here are some of them.

Build a dedicated structure

The AC unit needs to breath. You can build a permanent structure around your air conditioner as long as you make sure that it is well ventilated. You can also add a storage cabinet, which can hold your garden tools, pool care supplies, hose and other stuff.

Chalkboard cover

Covering up an AC unit with a wall chalk board can do double duty. It will not only conceal your AC unit, it can also serve as memo board. It can also come in handy on game nights since you can use it to keep score.

Fence it in

This is one of the most common approaches to hiding the air conditioner from view. A trellis fence is a great option since it provides your air conditioner with plenty of room to breathe.

Use plants

This is one of the best options for hiding your air conditioning unit. The plants will not only act as a natural shade and keep your unit cool, it is also environmentally friendly. You can plant shrubs, vines, potted plants or other greenery to mask an ugly A/C unit. But be sure to keep the plants at least 2 feet away from your air conditioner.

Curtains

A café curtain is a great way to hide a window AC unit. You can just pull it aside when the air conditioner is on. Get a stylish curtain that complements the interior of your room.
