Easy Ways to Reduce Home Allergens

Easy Ways to Reduce Home Allergens
Pet dander, dust mite droppings, dust and mold spores are the most common indoor allergens that trigger reactions, eczema flare-ups and asthma spells.

Here are some easy ways to reduce home allergens:

Stick to a regular cleaning schedule

If you or someone else in your home suffers from allergies, regular cleaning is a must. Clean floors and other hard surfaces with damp rags or damp mops. Avoid using a feather duster or a dry cloth as they will only make dust float in the air. If you have carpets, vacuum them at least once a week. A clean, healthy home is one of the easiest ways to immediately reduce allergens.

Dust the HVAC vents

It is not uncommon for allergens to accumulate in the HVAC vents. Eventually, this creates a dense, mat-like environment where mold can flourish. It is important to inspect and clean your vents regularly. When inspecting your vents, check if there is dust coating the grill on the return air registers. Also, take note of little wisps of dust puffing out of the vents -these could be an indication that your air ducts are due for a thorough cleaning.

Clean or replace air filters every 3 months

The summer heat can be unbearable without the air conditioner. In order for it to function efficiently, you need to think about your air filters.

Air filters trap dirt, dust and other allergens that circulate in your home. If you ignore it, your air filters will be blocked. This will make your air conditioning system work harder. Plus, allergens are going to be blown back into your home. This may cause allergy symptoms and even trigger asthma attack. To reduce indoor allergens, we recommend checking your air filters every month then clean or replace them when they get dirty. Ideally, air filters should be cleaned or replaced every 30 to 90 days.
