Often times, however, it is easy to overlook important steps for home maintenance that can save you thousands down the road in repairs. Below is a checklist for each season to help you stay on top of your home maintenance and safety schedule.

Spring Home Maintenance

It’s not called “Spring Cleaning” for nothing! Spring is a really huge month for home safety and maintenance. Here’s a checklist of all the things we recommend doing this spring to maintain your home, keep your family safe and prepare for summer.

– Check the exterior drainage of your home
– Clean out your gutters
– Inspect the exterior of your home
– Schedule a service on your AC system to get ready for Summer
– Check and repair/replace any damaged window screens
– Clear away any dead plants or shrubs from the house
– Check all trees for interference with electric lines
– Inspect your roof for damage and leaks
– Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
– Replace the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (even if they test ok)
– Test your garage door’s auto reverse feature
– Run water and flush toilets in any unused areas
– Vacuum your refrigerator coils
– Check your water softener and add salt if needed

Summer Home Maintenance

With the beautiful weather, summer is an awesome time to focus on the exterior of your home! Here’s a checklist of all the things we recommend doing this summer to keep your family safe maintain your home.

– Check the grout in your bathrooms, kitchen, etc. and repair as needed
– Inspect plumbing for any leaks and clean aerators on faucets
– Take care of any insect problems you have
– Inspect, clean and repair your decks and patios as needed
– Clean out all window wells of debris
– Check and clean your dryer vent and other exhaust vents to exterior of your home
– Clean your garage

– Flush your hot water heater and remove any sediment
– Winterize your air conditioning system
– Schedule a heating system tune up to get ready for winter
– Turn off and flush all outdoor water faucets
– Get your chimney cleaned, if you have one
– Test your sump pump
– Check your driveway and pavement for any cracks and repair if needed
– Buy winter gear

Winter Home Maintenance
