Energy Saving Tips for This Hot Summer

Keeping cool in the summer and watching your electrical consumption can be a challenge. Most of you are probably using more electricity to run fans, using more water to take showers or running the air conditioners more often. With these activities, higher energy bills are to be expected.

Stay cool in the warmer months while saving money and energy with these great tips.

Turn off power sources

Computers, televisions and other electronic devices draw power when they are on standby. Even if they are turned off, they still consume electricity if they are still plugged in. Save money and energy by unplugging electronics when not in use.

Open the windows

If you live in an area where it cools off at night, be sure to open the windows to let the cool breeze in. Then shut the windows and blinds upon waking up in the morning to capture the cool air and keep the sun’s heat out. This is a no-cost way to keep your home a little cooler.

Give your air conditioning a break

Save energy and cool your space down by installing a ceiling fan. A ceiling fan will create cool breeze and keep the air circulating in your room. This will also give your air conditioning unit a much needed break.

Use alternate methods of cooking

The indoor stove and oven can raise your kitchen’s temperature by as much as 10 degrees. Use a microwave or cook on your grill to keep your kitchen cooler and to save money as well.

Have your air conditioning unit serviced regularly

Have your air conditioning units inspected and maintained by an HVAC professional annually and be sure to change your air filters every 3 months. This will not only help your unit function more efficiently, it can also extend the life of your air conditioner.
