Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air?

Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air?

It’s hot, record temperatures are being set and we’re only halfway through the summer – the hottest months are still on their way. If you are experiencing your air conditioning unit blowing warm air, the time to get it fixed is now.

There are several different reasons why your air conditioner is blowing warm air. You can do some troubleshooting prior to calling your local HVAC professional. Here are the top three common issues to check.

Thermostat setting

This may seem like a no brainer; however, it is very easy to flip the furnace on instead of the air conditioner. This is the best place to start. Check all of your thermostat settings and thermostat batteries – it could be as simple as flipping a switch.

Outside AC unit is dirty

The indoor unit is responsible for absorbing heat from your living space while the outdoor unit releases it. Your air conditioner relies on the cooperation of both your indoor and outdoor unit. If the outdoor unit won’t come on or isn’t functioning properly, the heat won’t be released into the outdoor air. As a result, you feel warm air from the vents inside of your house.

You should check on your outdoor unit from time to time and make sure that it’s free from dirt, leaves and other debris.

Dirty air filter

Dirty or clogged air filters won’t cause your air conditioner to blow warm air, but it causes less air to flow through the system. With reduced airflow, you may experience hot and cold spots in your home.

When was the last time you cleaned your air filters? If you can’t remember, then we highly recommend that you turn off your air conditioner, clean or replace it and then reinstall it back.

If you have checked all of these potential problem areas and you are still experiencing warm air, give us a call and we are happy to help you keep your home comfortable this summer.
