How to Prepare for Air Conditioning Installation

An air conditioner is a big investment that you and your home need to be ready for. Preparing your home for the air conditioning installation can make the process go a lot smoother.

Think you’re ready to move forward with the air conditioning installation process? Here are some steps you should take before installing an air conditioning system in your home.

Choose the right contractor

Before you get going on the with the installation process, you’ll want to choose the right contractor for the job to ensure that they get the job done the first time.

Never chose a contractor based on their rates alone. High quality contractors usually charge more since they invest in high quality equipments and make sure that they send you skilled and highly trained technicians. Low quality contractors, on the other hand, advertise the lowest rates just to attract customers like you.

Find a spot for your AC unit

Location is an important consideration when it comes to your air conditioning installation. Your air conditioner should not be positioned in an area that is under direct sunlight. Too much sunlight can counteract any efforts your AC unit is making to cool your home.

Rain will not hurt your unit, but be sure not to place it directly under a gutter or where excessive water can pour down on it.

Clear a path

You will want to clear the area where the unit will be installed. Clear the area as best you can and ensure it is easy to access. Get rid of children’s toys, garden hose, leaf piles, big sticks or anything that can get in the way of the installation crew. We also advise to keep your pets inside the cage to prevent accidents.

Clean and seal ducts

When was the last time you had your ducts cleaned? If it was done a couple of years ago, it is probably best to have the contractor do a duct cleaning prior to the installation process.
